Background and History

Perspective of The Uganda Co-operative College Tororo

Uganda Cooperative College Tororo is a government owned tertiary institution, located in Tororo District, Eastern Uganda, was established in 1962 to provide specialized education and training in cooperative management, finance, and business development. The college is committed to equipping students and community members with the skills and knowledge necessary for promoting cooperative principles and contributing to national economic development.

Early Years: The college was founded in 1962 as a response to the need for professionalizing Uganda’s cooperative sector. Initially focused on short-term training for cooperative leaders and members, it expanded its scope to include full-time diploma and certificate programs.

Programs and Impact: Over the years, the college has introduced a variety of academic and professional courses, including diplomas in Accounting and Finance, Cooperative & Business Administration, SACCO and Microfinance Management, etc. These programs are tailored to address the challenges and opportunities in the cooperative and business sectors.

Regional Influence: As one of the few institutions in Uganda specializing in cooperative education, the college has attracted students from across the country and the East African region. It has produced skilled professionals who contribute to the development of cooperatives, businesses, and financial institutions. The college student’s enrollment currently stands at 404 students. Of whom 320 students are government sponsored.
